Willie Park Senior is a multiple major British open winner, winning it four times in the late 1800s. Now what Willie Park Senior did was to actually make his money, was playing challenge matches against other notable players of the time such as Old Tom Morris. Now that form of the game was the most popular type of spectator sport in Scotland at that era, and that is how he managed to make a living. Now to do that, one thing that he had to do was be able to take dead aim. In other words focus solely on his target, nothing else, no distractions just to try and get the ball in that hole and take home the money and also entertain the crowds.
Now to take dead aim what that means is switching off all technical thoughts, and just focusing on the target. Now when you just focus on the target you can strip away a lot of technical thoughts which could be causing issues and not helping you within your game. Now very, very simple to do, not quite as simple to put into practice while under pressure, but if you do practice this, it can work wonders for your game. Just very simply behind the ball, focusing on your target, imagining how you want the ball to actually get there, setting up to the ball, keeping a picture of the target in your mind, just having one glance towards it, and then just letting the swing go. It’s very, very hard for a lot of golfers not to actually focus on technical aspects of the swing, but if you want to win the money and if you want to just focus on your target, taking dead aim is definitely the way to go and hopefully, like Willie Park Senior it will help you take home the money as well.
