Willie Park Junior was a professional golfer from Britain who achieved most of his success in the late 19th century winning two open championships. He was a son of Willie Park Senior also a famous British golfer of the time. Now what Willie Park Junior did very, very well was get his downswing and his through swing matched up to each other. Now what I mean by that is as he actually came through impact, his clubface was hopefully at most occasions relatively square to his target, but as he approached this through swing position, the knees, the belt, or the belly, the chest and the eyes, were all facing in exactly the same direction, down towards the target.
Now what that meant, if he could hit this position and hold this position, it meant that the body would have been matched up at impact, it would continue to turn through in rhythm and together and as the follow through in the finish position was held, if it was in balance, then all that must have been working together and working in sequence. And it’s a great way that you can affect the impact by focusing on your through swing position. So getting set up, moving the body through and holding the finish position. So the chest, the belly, the knees, all facing down towards your target. If you can hold that position when you finish, I’d say hopefully the impact position would have been successful as well.
