Why do some players hover the driver before they swing? Now there’s no set rule that says that a driver has to be on the floor, it has to be in the air, it has to be behind the ball, above the ball sort of to the side of the ball. When you’re hitting the golf shot you can have that club head wherever it feels comfortable. However, there are specific reasons why players will hover the driver just behind the ball before they actually hit the shot.
The most common reason is that some players find that if that club is settled down on the ground it’s quite hard to get the swing going. It almost feels like they have to pick the club up off the ground and then begin the back swing. What a lot of players do is , as they get to the ball, they’ll get the club settled behind the ball just resting on the ground but then before they hit, just actually bring it up and hover it above the surface. Now what this allows them to do is start the back swing unimpeded by any grass, unimpeded by the thoughts of having to lift the club off the ground, it allows them just to smooth take away.
However hovering off the ground, keeping it on the ground; there’s no set rule, you can do whatever makes you feel comfortable. However if you do want get that swing which is a bit more of unimpeded take away, just hover it up off the ground, take a nice wide swing and then deliver that blow down through the ball. But if you’re not sure, give it a go; try see how it feels and you never know, you might become a hoverer of the driver as well.
