Pete Styles here PGA golf professional with over fifteen years experience and I'm here today to test the Thomas golf club AT 505 range of iron.
Know when these irons settled down behind the golf ball the first thing that will strike you is a really forgiving thick top line that gives you a lot of confidence when you set the club behind the ball it also allows for the fairly unique feature in the Thomas golf range of actually having the patented alignment line on top of the golf club which allows us to point the way home. So as I set the club in behind the golf ball I look down my target line my body my feet my toes my shoulders all lined up towards my flag but quite nicely my club has this alignment line behind it also pointing the way home so as I set the club behind the ball lots of confidence in the set up there as I go a head and knock one out there.
The feel of the club face is absolutely superb. It was a good strike that one so I'd expect it to feel nice but really really solid and crisp through impact. Now these clubs have been custom fit for me as well so I've got a nice stiff shaft in here I've got a mid size group which is a little bit chunkier for my hand size and half an inch longer than standard. So as I set up over the ball they feel superb and with the Thomas Golf unique fitting system online you can actually get the club designed made to measure exactly for your size and shape as well, but there's not a great deal of benefit in just listening to me review these. So what I'm now going to do is bring in I'm going to call him Mr. average golfer so Tom is a twelve handicap golfer plays at the club local to me I know him very well we've played golf together a few times I've helped him a little bit with his game and he said to me “you know people are looking for a bit more consistency out of my irons” I said “I've got just the thing for you. Come down try these out.” Now this is the first time you pick this club up of just show it to you ten minutes ago what you initial thoughts on the club. Straight away the grip, the grip has got these arrows on it so I really like you come to where you place your hands automatically or your right hand goes where it should be. So the alignment technology on the grip you like that is beneficial. Yeah I mean looking down at the club there is a line on top along with well the first thing to note is just go straight on the face. Ok you like that like that. You know where the ball should hit where you should have the ball set up. Perfect so you feel I was going to give you an idea of where the sweet spot is on the club face as well so you can line up to there you've got the alignment line on top it all sounds positive. Should we go ahead and hit a few then.
How did that feel? That felt really solid. Actually it felt like a good swing, but it felt like it was middle of the face it felt really good. So out of the middle of the face that one felt really nice. Well lets keep going and hit a couple of more down there.
I got hold of our nicely as well. And how's the grip actually feeling you know you talked about the hand placement positions that you feel it's a nice high tact grip. Very nice like I usually wear a glove and I'm not wearing one today and I thought it was going to be an issue nut it is not bothering me.
Now I was a little bit lower on the face talked about how it all felt on the face of a lot of them are my usual irons that would maybe have to have the vibration stuff got really soft and went straight back as that was pretty good I don't think I lost distance. To me it looked like it was similar distance to the previous runs and it did actually climb up it kind of spot the bottom groove quite a nice looking shot there. You got any thoughts about the shaft look and feel to you. So it feels soft like to graphite shafts obviously it's stiff which suits my game yet I'm so used to steel that feels softer. OK without feeling like you're going to fly high in the air. So less reverberation come back up through the shaft but I definitely it was soft even when I hit a thin shot. So the first time you've seen these clubs your overall impression of them they're like yeah I'd love to try them again I'd love to get them out on a course to see how they perform not just on a range. OK so that is Tom's experience there with the AT505 range of Thomas golf clubs really good really forgiving I think he really appreciated the way that even on the off centre hits the ball still flew very nicely. So I think the next eight for Tom would be to try out a few of the longer and shorter clubs and then maybe go through the online fitting process at ThomasGolf.com and work out the exact specification in terms of the length of shaft, the grip, grip thickness, the lie angle and the shaft flex that are going to be best suited to his game if you want to try out a new set of irons check outThomasGolf.com and see which range of clubs is going to be best for you.
