Snapping The Left Knee - What It Means In The Golf Swing (Video) - by Peter Finch

The remaining terms that you may come across within the golf swing technique and one of them is snapping the left knee, which sounds oddly violent; but it is actually a vital move that many of the top players make. Snapping the left knee refers to the point at impact where the left leg is straightening and the left hip is rotating out of the way. The feeling of snapping the left knee brings those things together.

So in a goal swing if you look at a very powerful play like Tiger Woods or Jason Day they kind of do this very, very well. It's a big turn to the top of the swing and as they move down into the downswing there is a little bit of a press on to the left side. The hip begins to move left and then these left knee snap straight, left hip rotates around as the club moves through the bottom of the ball. It's a feeling that can give you more power; it's a feeling that can really use the lower body to its maximum potential. If you're moving into the ball with a very soft left knee and the left hip isn't rotating you're not going to be able to generate the amount of power that you need to, to hit the ball a long way. So, that’s the general feeling that we’re going to be having to look at and as we go through video series, we’re just going to at drills and specific feelings that you can use to snap that left leg straight, to rotate that hip and hopefully get a little bit more power and consistency to your golf shots.
