If you’re struggling with poor strikes when you’re chipping, here’s a great way to heal those bad problems. When you set up to the golf ball, we’re going to do a little exercise now. We have the ball in the center of the stance gripping down, leaning to the left side is normal. But I’d like to drop this right foot back and just stand on your tiptoe, lifting your right heel clean off the ground. Now, in that position, almost like a sprint is starting to push off. You’re pushing your body weight naturally on to your left hand side. That’s a great way of feeling how you can strike down on the ball, taking ball in turf, and not getting caught leaning back on to the right hand side.
So, as we set the golf ball here, right foot goes up on to the tiptoe, standing much more body weight in the left side, I’m already in my follow through position for my chipping action, hit the ball, push forwards, and I‘m getting nicely into my left side, and this is lifting up. Anytime, I chip and I lean back and feel pressure on my right leg, I know that I’ve got tempted to go back into a scooping position and that’s no good. So, up onto the tiptoe of your right leg, push forwards off that foot, strike your chip shots more crisply and that’s a great way to heal your bad habits.
