As again, with a lot of these changes that we make, we want to therefore look to see whether we can actually get some feedback on whether these changes work and we can assess the quality of our golf shots to see whether the new stability and stable leg position is actually helping it.
So the first thing we would look for as an improvement is probably just a bit more distance on our shots. That’s always a good key sign that our golf swing is being more efficient. So if my leg flex has been more efficient, my right shift has been more efficient, my turn through has been more efficient, the golf ball should go further. And it'll go further because I’m hitting it harder with faster club head speed but also because I’m striking it more consistently. If my leg and stability action in the lower half of my body is working more consistently, the strike is better, the ball is going to go further because of that. Another consideration particularly relating to my leg position is that I’m better when the ball is on a even lie. So if the ball is on an uphill or a downhill or a ball above or a ball below stance and my leg position is good, I’m stable, I’m solid, I’m anchored, I’m supporting myself nicely, I’m enabling my golf swing to work more consistently because my leg position is good, then I’m still going to be able to hit good quality shots even when the ball is on a slope. Whereas if in the past you might have felt that your legs weren’t working for you, every time you got the ball on a slope, in a side of a bunker or on a down slope, you were struggling to hit the golf ball well.
One last little test if you like to see whether your leg action is really working well and you're a good supported golfer supporting with the lower half nicely, is actually play a fairway bunker. Fairway bunker is a kind of the ultimate test because they’re sometimes quite uneven, the sand moves around a little bit, and if you strike the ball anything like not perfectly, you will notice it straight away, either you’ll finish it and have a look at the bunker or you'll hit it heavy and it won’t go out far enough. So if you could really want to confirm whether you're a good ball striker and confirm whether the lower half of your leg position, so your good stability here nicely engaging the legs, stable in the backswing, stable coming through. If you wanted to check that all of that was really working well for you, get yourself on some uneven lies, get yourself in the fairway bunkers and test yourself to see whether your ball striking is still good even in those awkward positions.
