Should I Use A Golf Belly Putter (Video) - by Pete Styles

Should you be using a belly putter? You’ve seen all this guys on the TV they have all got the belly putters and Keegan Bradley is doing quite well with this and wining a few majors on that side yes. Should you swap to a belly putter? My honest answer is no, 2014 in the summer at the moment where I am now, 2016 an anchored putter, a putter that’s anchored into any part of your body would be banned from the game of golf, so now is probably the worst time ever to consider changing into a belly putter.

So I really think that it’s better to persevere with a standard length putter, find some really great tuition maybe even go and see a PGA professional and get some lessons on how to use a standard length putter if you are struggling. If you decide the you know life’s too short and you can’t afford to wait to 2016 you want to get cracking with one of this belly putters, the reason why you would decide to do this is because you can’t control your hands; so quite often we’ll see that the good players had changed the belly putters they are struggling to control their hands, they are getting too flicky, so taking putts and they are flicking here they are dubbing it with the bottom of their right hand and they are releasing the club too much, with the bottom hand. So they would change to a belly putter simply anchors the putter into the chest or the belly then as we rock the club backwards and forwards here it has to be a lot more of the shoulders action. The hands can’t get too involved because this end starts wobbling around again. So that’s the reason why people would change but I really think even if your putting is very poor at the moment rather than learning this method and then in a year or 18 months time you are having to change back, you’ll actually be better suited just persevering with the method that you have maybe consider changing the grip of the method that you currently have. So you maybe change to a left below right grip or a sole grip or something of that nature, but I really don’t think now is a good time to change to a belly putter.
