Shane Lowry is a 27 year old Irish golfer who actually won on the European Tour while he was still an amateur and he actually turned professional pretty much the day after his victory, so he missed out on about 250,000 Euros in price money but he still got the trophy at home none the less. Now Shane Lowry is a very unique swinger of the golf club, there are a lot of aspects to his swing which you wouldn’t say with that technically proficient that he gets them working in an order, and gets them working so well, that he hits the ball exceptionally well. Now what Shane Lowry does on the backswing in particular is keep the right arm glued to his side, it is so, so close to his side. But what that means is as he comes to the top of the swing, the club moves away a little bit on the inside, and at the top of the swing, it is pointing across the line. So it’s pointing off towards the right of the target. Now from there, it loops around slightly on the inside and he moves the club through and hits a draw.
Now that means there’s a lot of redirection of the club throughout the swing. But what it also means is his able to redirect and get a lag and get power on the shot. Now Shane Lowry does hit the ball quite a long way, not the most accurate at times because of the redirection, but he does get the ball out there quite a distance. And it just shows that if you can manage to get the redirection on the swing, and you can manage to get the club into a decent position at impact, you can still hit good shots, you don’t need a technically perfect Adam Scott S backswing to hit very, very good shots. So keeping that elbow in, in the backswing, getting across the line slide with a redirection is the real key here. And it can certainly send the ball out there, very, very well. So I you don’t have that perfect backswing don’t worry as long as you are getting into a good impact position, that’s the one that really, really counts.
