Q Baek is a 19 year old Korean golfer who at her first LPGA Tour event last year, beat a number of players in a playoff, to actually emerge victorious. This year is her first full season on tour, and she’s a very, very exciting prospect. One of the most compelling things about her swing is the amount of wrist set and the amount of wrist hinge she manages to achieve in a short space of time during her backswing. She gets set up in a very strong powerful position, moves the club away nice and wide, and very quickly gets the wrist and the club set at 90 degrees, and she continues that relationship throughout the top of the backswing and the downswing as well. That 90 degree angle is set and then it’s held up until the release of the club through impact. It’s a very, very simple, and it’s a very, very good golf swing. The actual quickness of the wrist hinge allows distance and power to be built up with the driver, but also with the irons it can be maintained a little bit longer and the actual impact can be down on to the ball. Now to replicate this in your swing very simply, take the club away nice and wide, and as the left arm reaches parallel to the ground, get that shaft pointing up at the sky. And try and maintain that as you swing down and through. So very, very exciting prospect, keep an eye of her this year.
