Never Be Stuck For The Correct Size Tee Again (Video) - by Pete Styles

One of the key fundamentals to setting up on any teeing ground with any designated golf club aiming at a target is we've got to get that ball sitting at exactly the right height on the tee. Now it's not as simple as just whacking the tee against the same height every time because different golf clubs are going to require a slightly different size of tee. Now if you're struggling to sort of push the tee against the right size and then you setup and it's too high or too low and you think oh well it doesn't matter, I'll just have a go anyway then you hit a bad shot because you knew the tee peg was the wrong size. Here is a great little tip to help you out getting the right size tee peg every time.

First thing you need to do is go and buy yourself some castle tees. Now a castle tee is a tee that looks like this. It's going to have a big flange in the middle and a flare top and bottom and then the spike at the bottom. So the spike is the bit that goes into the ground and the flange at the bottom stops it going in too deep and effectively, it presets the height you’re going to tee the ball up. So when you push it into the ground you drive it down into the turf and it will stop at the right height. Now you can get these castles tees in loads of different sizes. And what we would suggest is that you measure the right size for each individual club. And we've talked before about how we'd like the middle of the ball to sit level with the top of the crown of the club and therefore half the ball should be sitting over the crown of the club. So we measure each tee peg to make sure we're going to get the right size for each individual club, be it a driver, a three wood, a hybrid or an iron. And then you take the tee peg and you stick it in the top of your club and then next time you pull the club out of the bag be it a hybrid club, has a yellow size of tee because that’s a little bit smaller than the previous one, an iron has a really tiny tee peg like this because with an iron we just want that ball lifted very slightly off the surface and then with a driver we have that much bigger size of tee. Now if you're hitting the ball off the tee you pull the club out, you've already got the tee peg in the back, you pull the tee peg out, stick it in the ground, hit it and then pop it back in the top of the club again for use next time. Now if you're taking one of these shots and you're hitting the ball straight from the fairway where you don’t need a tee, the tee peg really shouldn’t get in the way, you should still be able to make your normal grip and your normal swing and even though there is a tee peg in there it's not going to cause you any problems so there is no worries about not using it when you're not teeing off. And I think that’s a really simple way if you're struggling to have the right size tee for individual shots, that’s a really simple way. Get some castle tees, big ones in the driver, medium size ones in a hybrid and the three wood, much smaller ones in the iron and you'll never be stuck for the right tee peg again.
