The four different lies and/or slopes that you can really get when you are playing from an uneven lie, here we’ve got a ball above the feet, we might be presented with a ball below the feet, we might be presented with a down-hill shot or likewise with an up-hill shot, but in this issue of having the ball above the feet, there are some basic techniques that we can change to hopefully encourages to get a good contact on the ball.

One of the main issues here is the fact the ball is just simply nearer to me, it’s been lifted off the floor and presented nearer to me. So the classic golfers bad shot from here would be to make a normal swing that hit the ground before they get to the ball effectively hitting the ball fat and that’s because like I said the ball is nearer to you. So you need to do something to make the ball feel further away or actually make the club feel shorter and that’s the key to this is grip lower down, by not holding this part of the club I should bring the club a little bit nearer to me. Now means I am going to swing through at the right level and I can vary the height I hold it depending on the severity of the slope. So a very pronounced up-slope I might be right down towards the base of the metal and that could help me hit the ball better. On a slight slope I might just go down half-an-inch or an inch. So it takes a feel little practice swings, just swinging clipping the ground to understand how you should hold the golf club to make sure you’ve got your hands at the right level, to make sure you got the best quality of contact. Other issues from the slopes here is, I wouldn’t want you to be over swinging from this sort of position. So it’s making sure you’ve got the right kind of club to hit the ball the right distance. If we had a 150 yards away from the green you might think “Well, that’s between a, I know an 8-iron or seven-nine”. Rather than try and burst the 8-iron and swing as hard as you can and lose your balance, it would be better in this situation to go up to a 7-iron and swing within yourself. The slopes are always going to make you a little bit more off-balance. So gripping down will take off a bit of distance, so therefore going up to the 7-iron would be beneficial, swinging nice and smoothly within yourself and hopefully with that in mind you can get a good contact with those two basic adjustments you should be better at playing from ball above the feet type of golf lie.
