Sometimes you might feel like you are swinging the golf club really nicely that maybe at the start of the round that’s producing some good results, but towards the end of the round the results go off, that you feel like you are still hitting all your key checkpoints in your swing and you are still swinging the club well. So what could be the difference, well often it will be the tempo, the tempo or the rhythm that you swung the club out during the start of the round just changed towards the backend of the round. And it might be that you are getting a little bit fatigued, you are getting a little bit tired or maybe the opposite you are getting a bit excited and getting a bit quick, but changing your tempo and changing a rhythm will be very detrimental to the consistency that you can play with your golf.

So we want to try and develop some drills or exercises that can maintain a nice solid tempo throughout the round where you don’t get too excited or too lazy or too tired during your game. For me one of the best tempo exercise is always just to put your feet together and just swing the club nice and evenly from vertical to vertical. So if I show you that now I am going to setup to the Tee and put the feet together turn the shoulders and lift the wrist up to a vertical L-shape position here and then clip the Tee peg and come through to a vertical L-shape position here, just try and maintain your balance and that’s really the key here. If you do it slowly enough to maintain your balance, you are probably developing good rhythm and good tempo. If you start to get your feet a little bit wider you could get quicker and if you had your feet together and tried to get fast, you would probably feel a little bit off balance and a little bit awkward. So try and maintain good rhythm, good tempo, tick, top and just keep nice and smooth.

Another good exercise to take out on the golf course with you when you want to find a little bit of power with your tempo is just to make nice rhythmical baseball swings just turning around your body here, swing it back slowly and faster as you come through the golf ball then as you tilt out forward to your golf ball it’s a nice slow backswing with the fast follow through. So tempo doesn’t mean doing everything slowly, it means doing everything nice and consistently, the same rhythm, the same tempo throughout the round. Practice good tempo in the driving range, take good tempo to the first tee and hopefully have a good tempo when you walk off the 18th green having sign for the best ever score.
