Lexi Thompson is only 20 years old. But after turning professional at 15 years old, has already crowned a lot of success into a relatively short space of time, winning multiple times on tour, including the Craft Nabisco Championship last year. She’s an incredibly powerful golfer, mainly because of her flexibility and her strength in her core and in her hips. She has a ridiculous hip action through actual impact area. During the backswing, she’s a very athletic player a nice extension to the left arm, lots of width during the backswing. But on the way down, her hips turn and move forward so aggressively at impact they are almost facing the target. Now this allows her to whip the club through at enormous speed and bump the ball out there a long, long way.
It is not an action which is easy to perform unless you are a strong and as flexible as Lexi Thompson. So there’s not only a technical aspect to the swing you would need to work on to achieve this, but also physical aspects as well. Actually improving strength and improving flexibility. But in a nutshell, to get this move and to practice this move is drive the hips towards the target and get your belly facing the target as quickly as possible. Allowing the club to really lag behind afterwards. And if you do that, and if you get that kind of club lagging behind, the amount of speed generated through the impact area is very, very high.
