If you ever found yourself in a bunker trying to splash the ball out of the bunker, but you don’t really well just seem to follow through like all the guys on TV do. If your sand was, just get stuck in the sand then stops and the ball just plops forward, one of the issues that you might have might be that your golf swing is too steep in a bunker. You might have heard the idea that I’ve got to hit down to make the ball come out of the bunker, but it isn’t necessarily the case particularly if you’re too steep. So if the golf club doesn’t have enough bounce on the sole, your swing is too steep, the club submerges, goes under the golf ball, doesn’t drive enough sand out and forwards and just gets stuck and the ball will look like it’s come out fat. So here’s a few little tips and techniques to help you if you’re not swinging steep enough in bunkers. The first thing I would encourage you to do, is just stand a little bit farther back from the ball, generally if you get too near to the golf ball you’re going to have to swing up into the air ‘cause there’s not enough room to swing around you.

So if you can stand a little bit farther back from the ball then your swing would look a little bit shallower and a little bit flatter which is a good thing. The next thing to work on would be just to open the club face nicely, keep the face pointing nicely right off target for the right handed golfer, standing a good distance away, swinging back nice and shallow this way and then making a shallower splashing technique as you turn your body through to the left. So it’s farther away, shallower back with plenty of open face and turn your whole body through to target. If you’re close and you’re steep and you jab in with your hands you’ll get that fracture that doesn’t get after the bunker. A shallower, smoother and flatter swing in the bunkers should get the ball out every time for you.
