So here’s a little tip of how you can improve hitting your short putts. Well you saw the ball do that was roll straight in towards the middle of a hole aiming right in to this white tee peg. Now what am I’m doing with this putting drill is I’ve actually placed the tee peg in the back of the hole almost to make a slightly tighter target for me rather than aiming for the hole I am trying to aim for the tee peg right at the back. Then I approach my putt almost as if I am trying to get the ball to hit the tee peg, to sort of hammer the tee peg deeper into the back of the hole by working on that analogy it’s giving me a really small targeted area to aim for. I’m not aiming for this big hole I am aiming for that tee peg.

And if I aim for that tee peg I tend to find my putting stroke would be a lot more positive, I’ll be a lot more assertive than I am going straight for the hole I am not going to be dallying it somewhere in there, so straight for the tee peg. And I think that makes people a lot more positive on the short putts they tend to haul a few more short putts which is a big sort of catalyst to improve in their overall game and improve in their scores. The other little tip I would give you to help you improve on your short putts is when you are reading these short putts try not to read too much brake into them. What I would suggest is try not to give away the edge of the hole. If I gave got a short putt from here and it’s got a small break from right to left, if I was to aim there on the edge of the hole that’s giving away the edge of hole. If I aim for that edge and then I hit my ball too positively too hard it would actually miss the edge of the hole because it wouldn’t break so much, it would keep ion that high side; it would miss on the high side. What I could do just make a very small change, bring that in, no more than a half an inch now, half an inch straighter, but importantly I am now inside the line of the hole. So if I hit ball too hard yes it wouldn’t break but it would still catch the edge of the hole and drop in. So it now falls into this corner but also noticing that if it broke quite a lot and I didn’t hit too hard, it’s still got about four inches of the hole to turn into. So on a short putt I want to be nice and positive and putt my stokes so the ball goes straight in the middle with a nice positive crisp putting stroke. I also don’t want to give away the edge of the hole when I am reading putts. And if you can bring those two factors into your short putts I am sure you’ll hole more short putts and improve your scores.
