What should my spine look like at a dress? It’s really important that in your dress position, you do create the correct posture, because with the correct posture, or the correct spine angle, you are going to be able to make a really good golf swing. With an incorrect posture or spine angle, it’s going to be difficult to move correctly from that position; it’s going to make it difficult to hit really good golf shots.

So what we want to do is as you create a new posture in your spine angle, you want to be standing totally upright, we are looking to keep the spine straight. Here is a great tip for you to know what this position feels like, just take your golf club, place it down your back, so that your head, the middle of your shoulders and the bottom of your back are touching that golf club. Now what you want to do from that position with you feet – shoulder width apart, is just tilt forward but keep all three points of your head, the middle of your shoulders and the bottom of your back, all in contact with that club, because that’s a now really nice straight spine position. One of the biggest issues I see when I’m coaching is that people go into more of a hunch position and they are just rolling their shoulders into the address position and then dropping their head. So this sort of position here is going to give you issues of rotating your shoulders on your back swing. So all three points in a straight line, tilt forward and then soften the knees. Again another misconception with correct posture is keeping the back straight but into more of a sitting position. If you’re not tilting forward, this upright position with your spine, even though your spine is straight, it’ll really force you to use your arms too much during your golf swing and you won’t be able to rotate your shoulders, so you won’t hit particularly powerful shots. So work on creating a really straight back position but tilt forward and tilt forward enough, so that once you’re in position, your arms can dangle freely under your shoulders. That’s what you’re looking for with your golf posture, if you try that, you’ll start hitting some really good golf shots.
