What should I work on to improve my consistency? Well if you’re looking to have a consistent golf swing everything you do before hand, before you actually play that shot, also needs to be consistent. So I think initially I would say to you if you want to get consistency have a good consistent pre shot routine that you follow every single time. And the way you want to do that is before you hit the ball is work on moving through three zones, so first of all when you initially look at the shot, you’re in your thinking zone, look at where you want to hit the ball to, get a really good mental image and picture of what the target looks like, and what the shot is going to do as it flies through the air to that target. Look at the yardage, decide what the wind is doing and then select your club. Once you’ve selected the club and you’ve looked at the shot and what you want it to do, walk forward into your feel zone and here is where you want to have a practice of the swing that you’re about to make to play that shot.

Once you’ve got a feel for that shot, now stand back again and take your alignment, so draw a line back from the target to the ball and pick a spot out, one to two feet in front of the ball that you’re now going to aim the club at. So basically you’re putting the target much closer to the ball. Now walk into your final zone which is your play zone, square the club face to the point that you’ve selected on the target line so that the ball is going to be hit over that point, set your feet up to that parallel to the grooves on the club face and then take your stance up, ensure your ball position is correct and ensure you’ve held the club correctly and you’re in the correct setup position, and then play your shot. If you do that consistently, every time before you hit your golf shot, you’ll start to become a lot more consistent, but also you can work on your rhythm and your tempo to give you consistency, what tends to happen out on the golf course is that your tempo starts to vary. And the swing get’s quicker than you usually swing at. So again to improve consistency work on having a more consistent tempo, it will really help if you can during your golf swing maybe to the numbers one two three at the top of the back swing and then hit on number four. Your consistency with your shots will alter if you start to speed that up and you start to speed your timing up. So work on having a really good pre-shot routine but also work on making sure that your tempo and rhythm is very consistent by counting to yourself before you hit the golf shot and that will improve your consistency.
