Branden Grace is a 26-year old South-African professional who seasoned last year, he has already won twice on the European Tour, and which rocketed him up the world rankings. He has been a player on tour for a number of years breaking on to the scene quite early, but it’s only over the last couple of years where he has really rose to prominence.

Now his swing has a lot of good technical aspects. But unlike lots of modern professional players, at the top of the swing, his left arm doesn’t extend fully. There is a slight bend as he gets at the top of the swing. Now in the modern game, most professionals have a very, very straight left arm at the top of the golf swing. This helps [Indiscernible] [0:00:46], and it’s easy to maintain a straight left arm down into impact. Now, what Branden Grace does is as he gets to the top, there is a noticeable bend in the left arm. Now this isn’t an issue for him because what he does so very well is on the way down, he then straightens, extends, and by the time he gets to impact, it is fully extended. If you do manage to get a bit of a bend in the left arm because he’s a lever in the golf swing, as that strengthens out, it can also add speed. Branden Grace isn’t a very big guy, but he can generate good club head speed and distance as that arm straightens out and as the club whips through. So, if you don’t have both straight arm at the top of the golf swing, there are very good players across the world you can make it work for them, like Branden Grace can. So, if you do want to add a little bit of speed or you can’t quite fully extend the arm, if there is a little bit of bend there, it might not be the end of the world. As long as it strengthens out there into impact, you should be fine. And like I said, Branden Grace, he’s certainly making it work for him.
