Karlsonn earned his first victory in 1995 at the Turespana Open Mediterrania. Karlson has won 11 times on the European Tour, including the prestigious BMW International Open (1997), the Omega European Masters (2002), the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (2008) and the Dubai World Championship (2010).
2008 was an especially good season for Karlsonn, he won the European Order of Merit, becoming the first Swede to accomplish the feat. He has placed in the top 20 of the Order of Merit seven times. He also entered the top 25 of the Official World Golf Rankings in 2008. That same season he finished tied for 8th at the Masters, tied for 4th at the U.S. Open, tied for 7th at the Open Championship and tied for 20th at the PGA Championship. Karlsonn has made the cut in 25 of his 43 Major Championship appearances.
Karlsonn made the European Ryder Cup team in 2006 and 2008.
In 2012, Karlsonn made a major change, moving with his family to the United States. He also began playing PGA Tour events in 2013 after earning his PGA Tour card at the year-end 2012 PGA Tour Qualifying School Tournament.
In the past year, Karlsonn has returned his focus to the European Tour. It’s been a difficult 2015 so far. Karlsonn has made the cut in just 6 of his first 14 starts this season. His top finish is a tie for 26th place at the Volvo China Open.
