    Reed started his college career at the University of Georgia however due to expulsion, joined Augusta State University in 2009. In both 2010 and 2011, Reed would lead the Augusta State University team to the NCAA Division 1 Championship. After the win in the 2011 Championship, Reed turned pro. Reed came through Q School in 2012 to earn his first PGA Tour card for the following season.

    Reed won in his rookie season, defeating Jordan Spieth in a play-off at the Wyndham Championship. This was one of five top 10 finishes for Reed in his rookie season and he would end the year 35th on the money list. Reed had a blistering start to the 2014 season, emphatically claiming the Humana Challenge by two shots from Ryan Palmer after shooting rounds of 63 on each of the first three rounds. A few months later he would capture the biggest win of his career to date at the WGC-Cadillac Championship where he would finish a single stroke ahead of Jamie Donaldson and Bubba Watson. This win broke a number of records including being the youngest player to win a WGC event and being the first golfer to have won three PGA Tour titles before playing in his first Major Championship. Reed would end the season 14th on the money list and would make his Ryder Cup debut.

    Reed started the 2015 season with a win at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions after a play-off with Jimmy Walker. A few weeks later he would come close to winning again at the Valspar Championship however he came up short after a play-off with Jordan Spieth.
