After playing college golf at the University of South Carolina, Anderson turned pro in 2009. Anderson played his first full season on the Nationwide Tour in 2010 and finished 60th in the standings. The following year he improved to a position of 22nd on the money list. He had four top 10s including a runner-up finish at the Miccosukee Championship. As a result, he captured his first ever PGA Tour card.

Anderson played 25 times in his rookie season, making the cut on 13 occassions. He had three top 25s with a best result of tied 9th at the final event of the season, the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic. He would finish his rookie season 155th on the money list and subsequently lost his card. He narrowly missed out at Q School that year of regaining his main Tour card by a single shot.

In 2013, Anderson captured his first win as a pro at the BMW Charity Pro-Am on the Web.com Tour. He won by an impressive five shots from fellow American Tom Hoge. He would also finish runner-up at the Midwest Classic Presented by Cadillac to end the year 8th on the money lost and therefore regaining his main Tour card. He only managed to play eight times in 2014 due to injury. Anderson has a medical exemption for the 2015 season on the PGA Tour.
