After playing golf at the University of Colorado, he turned pro in 1993. He played on the various mini Tours for a couple of years before capturing his first PGA Tour card at the 1995 Q School. Kaye played 25 times in his rookie season, making the cut on eight occasions. He had two top 10 finishes with his best result being a second place finish at the Quad City Classic where he finished a single stroke behind the three time event winner, D. A. Weibring. Kaye would finish his rookie season 94th on the money list.

Kaye struggled with injury for a couple of years and missed most of the 1996 and 1997 seasons as a result. Between 1999 and 2003, Kaye had five runner-up finishes. He finally captured his first Tour win in 2003 at the Buick Classic after a play-off with John Rollins. Kaye would have eight top 10s that year on his way to finishing the season a career best 16th on the money list.

He won his second and last PGA Tour title the following year at the FBR Open. He closed with a round of 67 to finish two shots ahead of Chris DiMarco. This was one of only two top 10s that season for Kaye. He finished runner-up twice the next season, at the Mercedes Championships which was his first event of the year, and the Reno-Tahoe Open. The 2007 season was Kaye’s last full year on Tour. After finishing 135th on the money list, Kaye lost his card. He regained his card once more in 2007 at Q School; however he quickly lost it again. He has played part time on the Web.com Tour since and doesn’t become eligible for the Champions Tour for another six years.
