Phoenix born Gossett was first introduced to golf by his father, at a young age. He took part in his first tournament when he was just ten years old. Although Gossett was also a skilled baseball player as a child, he decided to concentrate on golf. After attending Germantown High School Gossett studied at the University of Texas, where he was first team All-American on two occasions. During his amateur career Gossett was also part of the 1999 Walker Cup Team. The following year Gossett turned professional. Three years later, in 2004, Gossett lost his fully exempt status and began to split his career between playing on the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour.
Gossett continued to play on the Web.com Tour and the Adams Pro Tour, in an attempt to regain his place on the PGA Tour. Although he qualified for the US Open in 2014, and played in both the John Deere Classic and the Barracuda Championship, Gossett has never fully reached the level of expectation that his early golfing skills and success created.
As of the end of 2014, Gossett had achieved one PGA Tour win, amassing total prize money of $2,234,484.
