Chella Choi is one of the latest in a string of Korean professional female golfers who have begun to dominate the LPGA and Ladies European Tours. Choi was born in Taegu, South Korea. She was a member of the Korean National Team as an amateur. She joined the Futures Tour in 2008 and earned her tour card for the 2009 season later that year at LPGA qualifying school.
Choi played well enough to keep her card over the next two years. Choi’s breakthrough came during the 2011 season. She earned her first two top 10 finishes on the LPGA Tour. She also finished in the top 10 at the Women’s U.S. Open Championship and ended the year at 35th on the LPGA money list.
Chella built on that momentum in 2012 with six top 10 finishes including her first ever Top 10 at a Major (Women’s British Open). She rose to 20th on the LPGA Tour money list.
Choi’s steady progression continued in 2013. She recorded seven top 10 finishes and made over $750,000 to finish 17th on the LPGA Tour money list. She also contended in two Major Championships (Evian and LPGA Championship).
2014 marked Choi’s best season yet on the LPGA Tour – ten top 10’s, over a million dollars in earnings, good enough to finish in the top ten on the LPGA money list.
Choi’s sights are clearly set on winning her first LPGA Tour title during the 2015 season.
