    Tway was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where his father and grandfather introduced him to golf. He was a promising junior golfer who took part in his first tournament at the age of seven and won the Redding Country Club Championship during his junior career. Tway’s skill in golf continued during his time studying at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma where he was a three time All-American, and won the Haskins Award in his senior year.

    After graduating from college, Tway turned professional in 1981, and four years later, in 1985, he joined the PGA Tour for the first time. Tway had a successful start to his PGA Tour career, achieving four victories in 1986, including a major, the PGA Championship. That year he finished in second place on the money list and was recognized as the PGA Player of the Year. Tway began playing on the Champions Tour in 2009.

    Away from the course Tway lives in Edmond, Oklahoma and is keen on a variety of other sports, including skiing and fishing. He is also a supporter of the Children's Miracle Network. Tway has passed his love of golf on to his son Kevin who turned professional in 2011 and has played on the Web.com Tour.

    As of the end of 2014, Tway has achieved eight wins on the PGA Tour, amassing prize money of $15,785,814.
