Born in Tallahassee, Florida, Barber attended College at both the University of Central Florida and Auburn University. He was a four time All American during his time at both of these Colleges. As an amateur Barber won the Florida State Amateur in 2009. He also played on the Palmer Cup team in 2011 and 2012, and the Walker Cup Team in 2011.

After turning professional in 2012 Barber was disqualified from the PGA Tour qualifying school the same year, after he signed an incorrect scorecard. He continued to play on the Web.com Tour, qualifying for a PGA Tour card for the 2014/2015 season after finishing 16th in the Web.com Tour finals.

As of the end of 2014 Barber was yet to achieve a win on the PGA Tour, but he had amassed prize money of $52,110.
