How To Create The Correct Club Head Feel As A Senior Golfer

All golfers work on improving their technique but it is really important that you do not forget the whole the purpose of why you are improving technically – it is so that you can deliver the middle of the club head back to the ball more consistently.

Getting the club head back to the ball is the whole reason that you are swinging the golf club because it is the club head that strikes the ball and does the hitting. It is really important that you know where your club head is during your swing and what it is doing as if you can feel where the club head is it makes it much easier to get it back to the ball correctly.

Feeling where the club head struck the golf ball will also provide you with valuable information with regards to the ball flight that you experience and the correction that is required to improve the flight of the next shot. If the connection with the ball felt off the toe of the club head, the ball will fly to the right and if it felt more from the heel, the ball will fly more to the left.

To improve your awareness of where the club head is as you swing, try swinging the club with your eyes closed. Place your awareness on to the club head and follow the movement of the club head with your awareness as you swing back and then down through impact into your follow through.

As your awareness of where the club head improves then begin to play 10/10. If you can obtain some impact stickers for your club face, the impact mark that is left on the tape once the club face has connected with the golf ball, will confirm the position of the strike on the club face for you. When playing 10/10 an impact on the middle of the club face scores a 10/10 – 10 for the correct position vertically (middle) and 10 for the correct position horizontally (middle). As the impact moves away from the middle of the club face, the value that you would score it reduces towards 0 towards the toe or heel and 0 towards the bottom of the club face, dependent upon how far from the middle the impact was. Hit a shot and then score it with a value for where you felt the strike was toe to heel, and also where you felt the strike was vertically.

Then check your feeling with where the impact mark can be seen. Work on achieving a strike closer to 10/10 on the next shot by making the necessary improvement with where the club face connected with the ball.
