Toe Golf Shot Drill: Drop Two Balls, Hit the One on the Outside

Here’s another good drill to get you extending those arms instead of pulling them in – a leading cause of hitting the ball off the club’s toe.

  • Place two balls side by side, 2-3 inches apart (or far enough to comfortably hit the outside ball without touching the inside ball).
  • Using a wedge, set up as though hitting the inside ball.
  • Make your swing, but hit the outside ball.
  • If you’re a little unsure about missing the inside ball, substitute a tee. Try five repetitions of the drill at a smooth pace, then hit a normal shot.

You may strike it on the heel, which is a sign that you’re learning to extend the arms rather than pull them in as you approach impact.
