Tour Edge announced recently their latest hollow-body iron sets, the EXS 220 and EXS 220h respectively. Here's Master Club Designer David Glod announcing the company’s latest products:
“These two new irons sets take us into the realm of offering next-level distance coupled with extreme forgiveness in both game improvement and super game improvement designs. We have long been a trailblazer in hollow-body irons. These two gorgeous iron designs encompass every performance benefit this emerging technology provides.”
The state of the art EXS 220 Iron makes for a split hollow body set undercut and arrives in a beautiful platinum chrome finish. Interestingly enough, this is definitely a game improvement irons by any metrics, yet it comes with all the perks and high-technology usually reserved for “better players”. Also, the EXS 220 features a highly advanced composite material construction, while the platinum finish comes with water repellent properties, robustness, and durability while playing extremely long. The long irons-hollow body design of the EXS 220 is built for extreme power, 4 through 7 irons respectively, while the 8 through Gap Wedge, i.e. the deep undercut scoring irons are built for accuracy, boasting tight dispersion characteristics.
Moreover, the long irons in the set are built with a forged maraging steel 450 Cup Face; on the other hand, the scoring irons are made from solid 431-stainless-steel. We must also mention the 19-gram Tungsten weight in the EXS 220 irons, which confers them extreme toe weighting and a larger than usual sweet spot.
Moving along with our story, we have the EXS 220h Iron, which makes for a super game improvement pure hollow body design, arriving in a brushed black satin finish, with the whole set being built from high quality 17-4 steel. The h particle in the EXS 220h line-up stands for hybrid, i.e. this is a hybrid iron set of sorts, engineered to deliver the forgiveness and distance properties specific to a metal wood, along with the control and feel of a progressive-offset iron set. The new hybrid irons from Tour Edge are built for an extremely high MoI, or moment of inertia, and have a deeper than usual center of gravity or CoG, due to their wider sole and shallower face, while the expanded perimeter weighting offers amazing forgiveness.
Also, the new Cup Face design comes into play in terms of improved ball speed all across the face. The new sets of game improvement irons from Tour Edge are already available worldwide and obviously, in North America, since February 1st and they retail for $129.99 per iron graphite, $109.99 Steel. Specs-wise, both iron sets are engineered with the company's proprietary SpiderWeb Variable Face Thickness technology, a state of the art tech-process that enlarges the sweet spot, as well as LaunchPad Technology, which creates a trampoline-like effect due to a special gel inside the internal cavity insert, that also absorbs shocks and dampens vibrations. On top of that, you’ll get a Ramped Sole, which is designed for smoother turf interaction by offering more relief on the heel and toe, and a redesigned Notch Hosel for easier bending. Both the EXS 220h and the EXS 220 iron sets arrive Power Lofted, which translates into maximum distance gains, and each shaft in the new series has been Speed Tested via robotic testing, and here is Master Club Designer David Glod describing the process:
“This new way of looking at how to pair custom shafts is unique to the industry. We have invested heavily in R&D and one of the first things we did with our new in-house swing robot was to test at different speeds. This has led us to do a bit of pre-custom shaft fitting for anyone buying EXS 220. Our testing showed that the performance of a shaft at a certain swing speed performed much better than at another speed in almost every speed test we did. It made perfect sense to us to offer the best performing stock shaft per flex and speed, instead of the traditional approach of assigning one family of shafts to all flexes that perform differently at different speeds.”
Finally, you must learn that all Tour Edge irons are hand-built in the United States and they are backed by a lifetime warranty from the company, covering any manufacturing defects for the life of the product.
