The Exotics EXS 220 driver from Tour Edge is already available at retail stores since February, but it kind of flew under our radar, so here’s the deal: 2020 brings us a revamped EXS 220 which according to the company features a twenty percent higher moment of inertia compared to its predecessor, and, as expected, boasts Tour Edge's proprietary Diamond Face technology. The new driver is designed with a brand new elongated face-to-back shape and features an adjustable nine-gram back weight, which helps with producing an amazing moment of inertia of 5440 grams per cubic centimeter, which is more than twenty percent higher compared to the previous-generation EXS driver.
Besides the back weight and the revolutionary elongated shape, the new Exotics EXS 220 driver from Tour Edge is crafted using cutting edge Triple Carbon Fiber technology on the heel and toe areas of the sole, as well as on the crown. As expected, by using ultra light-weight technologies, Tour Edge managed to save a lot of weight in the process. The substantial weight savings were then relocated to the back of the club, and since carbon fiber is not only ultra-lightweight but stiff and strong, the end result was an easy to maneuver driver with added forgiveness.
The Exotics EXS 220 also features a shallower 8-1-1 Titanium face, and since titanium is light and strong, it allowed Tour Edge’s engineers even more weight repositioning. Besides the nine gram back weight, there are extra weights of three, six, eleven and fourteen grams, which allow you to fine-tune the driver to your preferred trajectory and swing weight. Here’s Tour Edge President and Master Club Designer David Glod commenting on his company’s entire Exotics EXS 220 line:
“We have taken a substantial leap forward in design innovation with the entire EXS 220 line. We set an all-time record for Exotics metalwoods sold with the original EXS line and based on the initial reaction to the performance from our partners and tour professionals, we feel we will shatter that sales record with the EXS 220.”
It’s also worth mentioning that the new driver from Tour Edge comes with a bigger-than-ever sweet spot, and that's due to the cutting edge face technology, and by that, we're obviously talking about the Diamond Face thing. The Diamond Face technology consists of 42 distinct (thin and thick) diamond shapes, that are designed to deliver the bigger than life sweet spot on the face, i.e. the EXS 220 driver comes with a smoking-hot face, which ends up in spin reduction, improved ball speeds all across the face and better overall performance after all’s said and done, especially when it comes to off-center hits. Rest assured, as acoustics have been improved too, as the new Tour Edge EXS 220 driver comes with what the company describes as an SD Bar, or a sound diffusion bar, which is located right inside the clubhead for enhancing acoustics.
Moreover, the EXS 220 features an adjustable hosel, hence if you were looking to fine-tune/customize your driver, you'll be able to alternate from 7.5-degrees to 14 degrees via 3 head options, and since you get +/- options from two degrees up/down, that means you’ll be able to play alternate lofts of 9.5, 10.5, and 12-degrees; and rest assured, as there's also a left-handed variant of the EXS 220 driver, available in 10.5- degrees.
Stock shaft options for the Tour Edge EXS 220 include 85 MPH or Below Fujikura Air Speeder: Ladies (R3) | Senior (R2) | Regular ®, 85-95 MPH Fujikura Ventus 4T Core: 5-Regular | 6-Stiff, and 95 MPH or Above Project X HZRDUS Smoke Yellow: 6.0 Stiff | 6.5 X-Stiff.
If you’re already sold on the concept, you should learn that the new EXS 220 driver can be ordered at all major retail stores all across the United States for $349.99 MSRP.
