If you’re a fan of the brand, you’ll be delighted to learn that the improbably named Honma T//World 747 Rose Proto MB irons are finally here, and they’re actually available at retail shops and online for $175 each in a 4-10 iron set configuration, with an additional 3-iron sold separately.. So, what’s so special about these irons? To begin with the obvious, the main selling point of the Honma T//World 747 Rose Proto MB irons is the fact that they’re designed with Justin Rose’s input, and that’s quite something.
Design wise, these babies make for muscle back blade irons, and they’re actually the second set created by the Japanese manufacturer with top-players in mind, i.e. the T//World 747 Rose Proto MB irons are aimed at elite golfers looking for the best gear available. The irons are built using Forged S20C mild steel and they arrive with Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 120 shafts and Honma TW grips. If you’re looking for irons designed for utmost precision and feel, the Honma T//World 747 Rose Proto MB should definitely fit the bill.
Speaking of Justin Rose, who incidentally is one of the best iron players in golf, he started his collaboration with Honma’s Research and Department team prior to him signing an endorsement contract with the Japanese manufacturer back in January. The new T//World 747 Rose Proto MB irons are literally built following his ideas about how a proper iron should perform and look. After Honma built a number of prototypes, Justin Rose took them for a spin on the golf course, and they were so good that he managed to win the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Obviously, he was playing with Honma prototypes.
As you can imagine, being irons created following the instructions of one of world’s top golfers, the T//World 747 Rose Proto MB can be compared to a Ferrari sports car, as in if you’re not an accomplished golfer, capable of hitting them properly, with repeatable swings, you’ll not be able to use them at their full potential. The irons are forged at Honma’s headquarters in the land of the rising sun (that would be Japan) using S20C mild carbon steel and they’re designed with a minimal offset, a thin topline and a narrow sole. According to Justin Rose, but let’s quote the man himself:
“The idea of having a hand in the collaborative design process for my set of clubs was extremely exciting. Working with the Honma master craftsmen to create an iron that felt and looked great for me was one of the biggest thrills of my career.”
As a fun factoid, prior to him winning the Farmers Insurance Open earlier in 2019, Justin Rose benefited from a personal fit from Hiroshi Suwa, who is the head of R&D at Honma’s factory in Sakata. The new irons are based upon Justin Rose’s exact specs. Mr. Suwa commented:
“These irons replicate the ultimate set we made to precisely meet Justin’s requirements on Tour. He shows great attention to detail and can guess the spin numbers on his shots within 200 rpm with the naked eye. As a result, his preference is for precise control of spin on all the irons in the set.”
It’s worth mentioning that Honma’s fabulous T//World 747 Rose Proto MB are a limited edition set, aimed at skilled golfers reading our website obviously, so if you’re already sold, go get yours while it lasts.
