If Segway is not for you, maybe a board is. Not a surfboard or a skateboard…a GolfBoard!! The manufacturers of GolfBoard claim that “it is the most innovative invention for golf since the graphite shaft”. I don’t know if I would go that far. After all is said and done, the benefit of the GolfBoard is limited to playability and not performance. That being said, it could be revolutionary in the way we get around the golf course. Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the GolfBoard is an “easy-to-ride vehicle that adds a new level of fun and excitement for golfers of all ages, allowing golfers to ‘Surf the Earth’ in a way that feels similar to snowboarding, surfing, or skateboarding”.
MAINTAINS THE TRADITIONS OF THE GAME
“GolfBoarding” as it is now being referred to, creates a whole new experience on the course in addition to playing the game we all love. Some may argue that it damages the integrity of the game. To those people I would say “lighten up”! True it may not be appropriate to see your elite players using the GolfBoard in your Club Championships. It may not even catch on with the seniors at the club. But if all it does is attract more players, then isn’t this a good thing? Although it may take some time to master the GolfBoard, it seems that it may actually be enjoyable. And fun is something that needs to happen every time we step onto the course. There may be days when it seems that the fun has gone out of your game. If you have a GolfBoard, at least there will be some fun left to be had.
FAREWELL TO THE 5 HOUR ROUNDS
GolfBoard claims that it will dramatically increase the pace-of-play. Their claim of being able to play a round of golf in 2:37 is not disputed at all. However, what they fail to mention is that their increased speed of play is predicated on who you are playing behind. If all players on the course had a GolfBoard, their claims may pack some wallop. Otherwise, pace of play is what it is.
After watching the video, there are more questions unanswered than not, but I will leave that up to you. I like the idea of a new product like this being introduced to the game. Whether it catches on remains to be seen, but you know what they say; “You can’t stop technology, you can only slow it down”.
