When it comes to high-end golf gear, SkyCaddie plays with the best out there. The good news for today is that the company just revealed their latest and greatest GPS handheld device, which is also claimed to be the most accurate and powerful yet: enter SkyCaddie S500. This top notch and nothing short of revolutionary gizmo looks like a glorified smartphone to be honest, and that's a compliment by the way. The high-end SX500 comes packed with features and looks visually, well, stunning, there's no other word for it, making for a unique hand held GPS based distance measuring device. Boasting a 5 inches wide high definition color screen, just like a modern smartphone, the SX500 handheld GPS also has a 13 Megapixels camera on its back panel, and replaces with flying colors the previous Touch model. There's also built-in WiFi, to allow you to download/update everything on your device, including ground verified golf courses (on foot!) for improved accuracy. By the way, this baby comes preloaded with over 35,000 golf courses from all around the world. This range topping and revolutionary GPS handheld gizmo is built to provide perfectly accurate distances to today's pin positions via the company's patented SkyCaddie PinPoint technology (the name says it all), and also features Dynamic HoleVue , another state of the art technology, that re orients constantly the entire hole-map (which is high-detailed by the way) from your exact position. Everything happens on the crystal clear high-def full HD touch screen. Basically, the SkyCaddie SX500 is unlike any other hand held DMD before it. Power and a fluid user experience is delivered by SX500's lightening fast multi-core CPU, which provides instant information with regard to hole data and what not exactly when you need it, without lags or freezes. The battery life is superb, due to the device's high capacity li-polymer battery (rechargeable, of course) that provides autonomy for over 36 holes. The design is rugged and assures a firm grip even in adverse weather conditions. Needless to say, the SkyCaddie SX500 is water resistant.

Thanks to its built-in WiFi capabilities, the SX500 is capable of making software/course updates without requiring a computer connection, which is as good as it gets in my book. Accuracy is a given due to the unique and error-corrected SkyCaddie golf course maps. It's worth mentioning that only SkyCaddie maps golf courses employing such a methodology. Using this GPS handheld device you'll be served instantly with distances to the pin from behind trees and from blind spots, so you'll be able to find bunkers easily, even if they're located around uphill greens, or to assess the threats of hazards, or to receive accurate yardages to strategic layup points, and so on and so forth. Another interesting feature of the SX500 is the Dynamic HoleVue with Integrated Targets technology, which allows you to have an on-screen overview of the entire hole; moreover, a pinch to zoom in or a double-tap will allow you to see a closer view of each bunker, every carry/layup point, every water hazard, with precise distances to each, regardless of where you're standing. Other features include a Super Large Number Mode, which delivers rapid/at a glance measurements/distances to the front/middle/back of the green, Shot Target Measurement, a digital score card, and a Target List View, which provides a quick list of all targets ahead on the hole. Another thing about the SX500 is that will provide you with way better intel about a distant green than any laser range finder, due to the patented IntelliGreen Pro technology, that delivers distances to major contours on the green and tiers, greenside mounds, false fronts, everything is instantly visible on the full HD display, provided you're an SX500 owner obviously. The cherry on top is the Dynamic RangeVue® with Club Ranges, a feature so powerful that it is currently banned from use in pro-golf. The Dynamic RangeVue® with Club Ranges thingy delivers even more personalized information regarding distances to every single major hole feature you're playing, and makes strategic play very easy. I already told you about SkyCaddie SX500 13 megapixels camera, which enables you to take pictures during your round of golf. The pictures can be uploaded on the spot to your SkyGolf 360 account, and further shared with your friends and colleagues, if one so inclined. Finally, the SX500 features Tee Box Selection, Dual Green Support, Gender Selection, Yards/Meters option, a North indicator and Stat Tracking. Bottom line, the SkyCaddie SX500 plays in a league of its own both in terms of form/factor and the amount of information it can deliver to its owner. The latter feature would be hard to find in any other distance measuring device in the industry today, and it's due to SkyCaddie's mappers, who create and update every course-map on-foot, using high-end surveying equipment. The only thing this baby lacks is the Auto-Shot feature, i.e. you'll still have to hit the ball yourself. The SkyCaddie SX500 will become available in late August at $399.95 (MSRP) . The price includes a year's Double Eagle membership, which covers the vast majority of golf courses in the US.
