Omega Reveals Latest Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light

Omega is one of the top-dogs in the timepiece industry and their new ultra-light Seamaster Aqua Terra will definitely rock a few boats so to speak. So, what’s the connection between high end watches and golf? It’s pretty simple actually: the new Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra is a sporty watch, and seems to be specifically designed for golfers; and that’s probably why the respective timepiece has already been endorsed by Tour players like Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia and Tommy Fleetwood. All of them tried the new Seamaster just before the OMEGA Masters which took place in Crans-Montana of all places.

Jokes aside, the iconic watchmaker who’s also one of the biggest sponsors of the PGA Tour offered the new Seamaster Aqua Terra for free to the three pros, while making an early start on the course, as Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia and Tommy Fleetwood sported the brand new timepiece in their own chosen color: green, red or blue respectively. It’s interesting to notice that Rory McIlroy played a special role in the development of the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light, and he finally had the opportunity to see the final product and even to wear it on the “battlefield”. Rory was quoted as saying about his work with Omega’s R&D team:

“I’m proud to have played a role in the development of OMEGA’s new lightweight sports watch. I know what an athlete needs in a watch and through collaboration with OMEGA, we were able to modify the timepiece. The new “Ultra-Light” is an absolute pleasure to wear, whatever sport you play.”

Sergio Garcia stated:

“Each of us has chosen a different color. I’ve gone with green, which I think works really nicely with the titanium dial. It’s also a nice little tribute to the green courses we play on every week.”

And here’s Tommy Fleetwood:

“The most interesting feature for me is the telescopic crown. You can just push it inside the case so it doesn’t get in the way of your hands. It’s a very clever feature.”

The new Omega “golf-watch” (just kidding, you can buy one even if you’re just spectating) is built to be as lightweight as possible (hence the ultra-light thing) and boasts a fresh and innovative design, as expected from the sacred monster of the watch industry. The Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra-Light debuted in a spectacular fashion during the recent Pro-Am tournament. Speaking of ultra-light, the watch weighs only 55 grams with its fabric strap (and a tad more if you go for a metal bracelet). The case as well as the case back and the crown are built using a special alloy, an ultra-light variety respectively, called Gamma Titanium. This is the stuff airplanes are made of, and we mean that literally, as Gamma Titanium is extensively used in the aeronautic industry, and that’s most probably due to its unique properties, as it’s both lighter and harder compared to pure titanium. And speaking of titanium, the Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra-Light marks a first for Omega, being the first-ever timepiece to feature a titanium made movement, and we’re talking about the Master Chronometer Caliber 8928 Ti.
