If you're a fan of the brand, the good news is that the new Ben Hogan Edge Irons are finally available some 30 years after the original Edge irons were first released. Now, in 2018, Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company is making a big come back with these iconic irons, which arrive in a forged hollow bodied form-factor and boast a number of (well hidden) game improvement features. It's worth mentioning that Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company declared bankruptcy last year, in January of 2017 respectively, and earlier this year it switched its business model to a direct to consumer thing, i.e. all of its products for the last couple of years are now offered at wholesale prices on Ben Hogan's official website. Basically, the company reinvented itself, cutting all the “men in the middle”, while staying true to its traditions and focusing solely on its e-commerce business. Truth be told, many people believed at the time (of the bankruptcy) that Ben Hogan is just trying to make the best of its remaining assets, i.e. they felt the company is just trying to liquidate its old stock and after that, there will be no more new products. However, this is not the case, as recently Ben Hogan introduced a new line of its iconic Hogan Edge Irons, which are pretty similar to the original Edge from three decades ago, as in they're very appealing to better players design wise, while featuring levels of forgiveness which are specific to game improvement clubs.

Basically, the new Ben Hogan Edge Irons are the best of both worlds, making for 2-piece forging irons with a very thin face-plate, aimed at increasing ball speed and improving feel. The classic Ben Hogan irons have been the definition of forged blades, that were treasured by golf purists, yet the “average” golfers could never use them properly, as they lacked distance enhancement and forgiveness. The Ben Hogan Edge Irons from 3 decades ago changed that, as they combined high tech stuff like perimeter weighting with the classic Hogan design, which made for more playable and forgiving irons, irons that won the hearts and minds of “normies” and pro golfers alike. The latest version of the Edge irons uses state of the art manufacturing techniques , being crafted using laser welding of forged stainless steel, i.e. the back section of the heads and the hosel are welded to a forged face. The 2-piece construction design allowed the company to hide the additional weight around the perimeter of the heads, thus increasing forgiveness and boosting stability. Also, the Ben Hogan Edge Irons' hollow bodied design allowed the engineers to create thinner faces for the long irons, which are more flexible upon impact, thus delivering more distance and speed. The mid-short irons have a progressively thicker face, to amplify feel and enhance control when it comes to approach shots. All the irons in the new Ben Hogan Edge series are designed with a V-sole, which helps with working through the turf more efficiently. If you're a brand aficionado, you can get the new Ben Hogan Edge Irons at BenHoganGolf.com, as they're not available in regular stores; and if you're wondering about the price, well, it's $735 for a 7-piece set (4-iron through pitching wedge).
