Cobra Fly-Z XL Drivers Review

The Cobra Fly-Z XL falls into the category of max game improvement drivers and it retails for a very affordable price tag of $279, with a graphite shaft. The key technology incorporated into its built is the famous Speed Channel, which is a sort of indentation around the driver’s face (on the perimeter actually), designed to save weight, that’s moved deeper/lower in the head. For casual/amateur golfers, the Fly-Z XL is an excellent solution, especially if you’re looking for all the help you can get from your golf gear. This driver is focused on senior golfers, but also at beginners, women, and high handicappers especially, and I must confess that it does an amazing job, fitting the respective group pretty nicely. That’s because Cobra Golf is one of the few companies in this business to actually develop such a line of golf gear, i.e. focused at high handicappers. After playing a few rounds with the XL, I can testify that I’m impressed, as this driver met and exceeded my expectations, being a super game improvement driver and I am sure that most golfers will agree with me.

Design wise, don’t expect too much from this baby; with a 460cc the Fly-Z XL features a relatively modest footprint, yet large enough to boost your confidence level over the ball. The offset is there, you can notice it, but there’s nothing dramatic about it. Performance is where this club really shines; the Fly-Z XL (the whole range of clubs) is quite forgiving and very responsive, letting you know when you’re hitting properly and when you don’t, having decent acoustic characteristics upon ball impact. Cobra designed this driver to launch the ball high in the air without slicing to the right, making your game easier and featuring a draw biased ball trajectory, delivering easy distance shot after shot. That’s how Cobra themselves are marketing this driver and I can say they hit the nail in the head with this tagline. I mean, that’s what the XL is all about. Decent and modern design and consistent performance at an affordable price makes the Cobra Fly-Z XL very easy to recommend to the gen-pop players, making your game enjoyable and allowing you to relax.
