Oak Hill Country Club Course Review

The Oak Hill Country Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in the United States, being founded way back in 1901. The golf courses were designed by architects Donald Ross, George Fazio and Tom Fazio and the longest one (back to that in a moment) features 7134 yards of golf from its longest tees for a 71 par. Visiting this historic facility youll discover that the Oak Hills Country Club actually has 2 golf courses, the East and the West. The East Course was ranked 17th in the prestigious Golf Digests magazine top 100 Greatest Courses in the United States as per 2013/2014 and 5th in the state of New York by the same magazine in the same period. The West Course was ranked 19th by Golf Digests Best in State list. As you can easily deduct from these accolades, the East Course is the best of the bunch, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt play them both. New York harbors some of the best golf courses in the country and the Oak Hill makes no exception, being one of the most historic clubs in the United States, boasting its incredibly rich tournament history, as it has hosted the US Open 3 times, in 1956, 1968 and 1989, also the PGA Championship in 1980, 2003 and 2013. The Oak Hill golf courses are built on a beautiful piece of real estate, featuring a rolling terrain which offers some outstanding uphill/downhill holes together with a bunch of lightly sloping fairways.

Playing the East Course youll be delighted to discover the creek that meanders through the property and bisects a number of fairways right next through the green, sometimes half way through the hole or some fifty yards from the green. There are also plenty of trees around the fairways, but theyre not very intrusive nor excessively thick. The golf course has a classic look and feel, with great strategy and gentle doglegs. According to Tiger Woods, Oak Hill is the fairest yet the hardest course pro-golfers have been asked to play during a major championship, and that speaks volumes in my book with regard to the overall golfing experience youll encounter while playing here. Keep in mind that the Oak Hill golf club is a private facility and its available just for its members and their guests, but if youre lucky enough to get an invitation, just go for it and thank me later.
