Bethpage State Park (Black) Golf Club Course Review
The Bethpage State Park (Black) Golf Club can be described as a pilgrimage destination for public golf course aficionados, being a very nice yet quite unusual venue. The Bethpage State Park is home for five different golf courses, but the Black is the most famous one, as it has been hosting 2 US Open Championships until now and in the next ten years will also be home for a PGA Championship and a Ryder Cup. Truth be told, the Bethpage State Park (Black) Golf Club is one of the toughest courses in the US, being unlike any other in the country. The initial design dates way back to 1936 and it has always been pretty good, having that sort of a cult-status in the golfing community. Everything changed radically back in 2002, when the Bethpage State Park (Black) Golf Club hosted an US Open for the first time in its long history.
Usually, these types of tournaments are held on private venues, and for the Black it really was a big deal breaking the ice in this regard. But what makes the Bethpage State Park (Black) Golf Club different, you may ask? Well, the most important thing is that the Black is one of the very few opportunities the regular golfer has for playing a great game on a world-class PGA Tour course, that will not require you to put a second mortgage on your home. Playing for the first time here, you should expect a high score, as the Black one of the most challenging layouts in the US and also one of the best in the country. Keep in mind that the Bethpage State Park (Black) Golf Club is extremely difficult, being recommended for high skill players and it's located on an awesome parkland layout featuring outstanding Tillinghast designed bunkers, a long rough, only 1 water hazard and big trees. If you're Joe Public, you'll not find a better place to tee it up on a US Open grade golf course than the Bethpage State Park (Black) Golf Club.
