Oak Tree National Golf Course Review

The Oak Tree National Golf Course is located in the Oklahoma City suburb of Edmond and it boasts a design signed by the famous architect Pete Dye. The golf course opened for players in 1976 and like many other courses in the area, the Oak Tree National is very windy. Playing here youll most definitely encounter relatively strong winds of thirty miles per hour. The undulating terrain upon which the course was built is also pretty difficult, and the Oak Tree National suffers from uneven lies, which are common from the rough or fairway, together with difficult greens, which are challenging to say the least if you want to hit well. However, theres a certain charm to a challenging golf course and thats perfectly true with regard to the Oak Tree National. This baby was ranked as 51st in Golf Digests Americas 100 Greatest Golf Courses per 2016 and that says a lot about its qualities.

Interestingly enough, the Oak Tree National is ranked second best in its home state. The golf course features 7412 yards from its longest tees (tournament tees) and 6873 yards from the championship tees. To add to difficulty, water hazards come into play on most of the holes, on 14 out of 18 respectively. The Oak Tree National sits on a scenic piece of real estate, 640 acres of pristine land and is has a long standing history of exceptional golf and excellence. Since its inception, its founders asked Pete Dye to create the most challenging course in America and Oak Tree National was the result. In 1988, this gem of a golf course hosted the PGA Championship and pro golfers attending the event were faced with a course boasting a USGA rating of 76.9 for a 71 par, which was the highest course rating in the United States at the time. The course suffered a radical update in 2002, having its greens redesigned, additional tees and longer distances, which gave the Oak Tree National a course rating of 79.3. Factoring in the terrains difficulty and the notorious winds of Oklahoma, this golf course will provide each golfer with an unmatched challenge, having one of the toughest tees in golf, together with one of the toughest starting holes, with well placed yet difficult bunkers , being demanding and exciting at all times provided youre bold enough to try it.
