Titleist just revealed their brand spanking new Scotty Cameron Concept X Putters, thus creating a new standard in regard to putter design. This is a bold statement, even if it comes from Titleist, but stick with me and you'll see it's true. The thing about the Scotty Cameron Concept X putters is that they're actual experimental prototype models (so far), and they boldly introduce for the first time in history (cue Star Trek theme) cutting edge technologies, the likes of innovative neck configurations, dual zone vibration dampening, and a boundary pushing high moment of inertia design, all of which are features never implemented in a putter (all of them, I mean). Not in this part of the galaxy anyway. Joke aside, the Scotty Cameron Concept X are state of the art putters, coming from a leading brand in the golf industry, a very limited edition prototype aimed at golfers looking for the ultimate in terms of putter performance. There are two version of the Scotty Cameron Concept X putters: the CX-01 and CX-02, and they'll both become available for US customers starting with August 31. The rest of the world will get them one month later, starting with September 28. Now, as I already told you, the Scotty Cameron Concept X putters are engineered to bring out-of-this-world putter experience to human golfers, and they're designed as a blade, while playing like a mallet. How did Titleist achieve that, you may wonder? Well, it's not X-files technology, but something else. Here's the deal: the company's bestselling blade to date is the Newport 2. Since Titleist's R&D department is composed of smart folks, they've decided to take something that works like a charm; in our case, Newport 2's head shape, and add some weight where it's required in order to achieve putting-greatness, i.e. help when it comes to off center hits via a high moment of inertia.

And speaking of Scotty Cameron Concept X, these putters boast a wing-design, as Titleist decided to keep the weight back and out of the head, and they manage to do it by taking the neck away. The weight issue was mitigated by using an aluminum sole plate and also an aluminum face insert, thus saving 35 grams of weight, that was further put back and out, hence creating the wing-design I told you about. These “wings” are responsible for Scotty Cameron Concept X's high moment of inertia, and also offer them the playability of a regular mallet, while keeping a cool blade design. Both the CX-01 and CX-02 are designed to offer more forgiveness and stability, and they feature Titleist's patented dual zone vibration dampening technology, which enhances both sound and feel. The neck configuration is also highly innovative. For example, the CX-01 putter comes with a tour proven nuckle-neck design, while the CX-02 boasts a joint-neck design. Both putters feature an anti glare high-end stealth-gray finish, that emphasizes their “industrial design”, in order to remind us of them being prototypes and all that geeky stuff. The philosophy behind the Scotty Cameron Concept X putters is to combine the performance and feel of a tour proven blade style putter with the forgiveness and playability of a mallet, via the latest technologies in the industry , everything aimed at appeasing the better players. These fast looking high tech feeling putters are wider than usual, a feature that adds to forgiveness, making for the best of both worlds: the best of a mallet and the best of a blade in one futuristic design, with an elegant industrial look. The Scotty Cameron Concept X putters were created to deliver top performance and they're in-house designed based on new big ideas and the latest technologies. Each of the two limited run Scotty Cameron Concept X putter models will be sold for $599. The key design feature in these babies is arguably the wing like structure, which is apparent in the rear of the heel and toe. Both “wings” harbor customizable stainless steel made weights, in order to steer weight away from the face and bring it on the perimeter, resulting in more stability on off center hits. The multi material design and the aluminum face insert further enhance forgiveness, while the stainless steel used on the perimeter and the milled aluminum plate sole deliver a higher moment of inertia.
