The original Mack Daddy 4 wedges were revealed by Callaway back in January, but the company decided to go one step further and please Tour pros with the Raw version, the Mack Daddy 4 Raw wedges respectively. These make for the raw-steel version of the clubs and they retail for $149 (MSRP), boasting a True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue 115 shaft and a Lamkin UTx grip. The “raw” particle means that the carbon-steel is not plated, and yes, in time, your wedges are prone to rusting, but that's normal and does not affect performance in any way. The Callaway Mack Daddy 4 Raw wedges are built using 8620 carbon steel and they come with lofts: 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60, and 62 degrees.
If you were wondering what's up with the Mack Daddy 4 Raw version, well, Callaway built them for people who enjoy the look of raw steel wedges, and that holds true especially for Tour pros. Just like the original version, the Mack Daddy 4 Raw wedges are engineered with a groove in groove face-design, which consists of saw cut grooves (they vary by loft), an additional groove located above the leading edge (the company refers to it as a “nip it” groove) and a state of the art surface roughening treatment (micro positive technology). The face of the Mack Daddy 4 Raw wedges is built to be completely flat, as opposed to having small grooves between the main grooves, and then the “extra” material is removed, thus making for 3 positive ridges, which are aimed at helping with gripping the ball on soft-touch shots and also with enhancing spin. Moreover, the Callaway Mack Daddy 4 Raw wedges are available in three different sole-grinds: the C grind, the S grind and the X grind.
