If we understand what the dropkick drive is, we understand now the club is coming down, it’s bouncing off the floor before it hits the ball, the club is too much on the right. We’ve now got to have a good understanding of why might that be happening. What would cause a dropkick drive? Three main reasons.

The first one is going to be drifting away from the golf ball. So during the backswing, the golfer sets sort of maybe 50/50 with the bodyweight but then there’s sway, a movement to the right-hand side, this way. The bodyweight sways too far to the right. The golfer doesn’t drive forwards enough as the club comes down. It hits the ground first and then rises up into the back of the golf ball. So that movement where you drift away can be quite a big problem. Other issues can relate to having fear and lack of lower body rotation. And that’s kind of connected really. And as a golfer sets up, they want to hit the ball down the fairway with confidence. But if it’s a narrow fairway, there’s trees either side bounce either side, whatever it might be, golfer gets to the top of the backswing and then doesn’t drive forwards with any confidence, stands on the back leg, hits the ground too early and then follows through after the event. So that sort of non-committal slide forwards or slide backwards but not the slide forwards can cause a problem. And again, that can be psychological. That can be a fear, fear of hitting through the ball well. The last thing, again, relates to that, it’s to the top, bodyweight on the back foot, here, but then not driving the lower half, so not initiating the downstream with the bottom half. No rotation of hips and legs to the left-hand side, standing on the back leg, swinging off the back leg, catching the ground first and then not shifting forwards. So all three things, really, relating to too much bodyweight moving to the right drifting, the fear of not driving forwards and also not initiating the swing with the hips. They’re the three main reasons, main causes for dropkicking your golf tee shots.
