Acceleration within the golf swing is absolutely critical if you want to propel the ball any real distance, but knowing when to accelerate in the golf swing is another matter entirely. A lot of people do not get this part of the technique correct, the whole point of acceleration throughout the swing, and especially at the point of impact is that you’re moving the club quicker and quicker and quicker until the point just after the ball. Now all that should tell you, and what you should see is when you see many of the top professional swing, this is a gradual wind up of pro power to the top of the swing. If you actually slowed the swing down to its absolute slowest point there would actually be a pause at the top of the swing, we’re talking for an absolute millisecond, but it’s winding of the power, turning the body to the top of the swing, and then from there gradually building up the power, building up the speed until the point of impact.
It is at the lowest point of the swing where the swing arc just bottoms out. That is when you want to be producing the biggest amount of club head speed. So when a driver, when you’re actually hitting this, the fastest point of the swing is about here; just after the ball. With an iron shot it’s just after the ball when the club enters the ground for a divot. It is at the bottom point of the swing arc that you need to be making sure that your acceleration is at its peak. Now during these videos we’re going to be looking at how you can do that, some drills that you can use but it is absolutely crucial if you want to become a successful golfer, to understand when you need to accelerate within the golf swing.
