The Wilson Staff Duo Spin golf ball has one of the lowest compressions (35 compression) that I have ever seen in a golf ball. This ball has the amazing ability to minimize side spin with shots using your driver, while giving more spin to your wedge shots. The benefit of a lower compression is that it generates higher ball speed with a slower swing speed.
Typically a low compression ball tends to jump and hop a bit off the putter face. Not so with the Duo Spin. You do lose a bit of feel when putting with this ball, but not enough to be concerned about.
With the short clubs, the Duo Spin performed admirably as well. Wedge performance usually suffers with balls in this category. A low compression ball has a hard time performing consistently shot to shot. Again, the Duo Spin bucks the trend. The ball consistently spins the same way time and again.
As far as driver performance is concerned, I already mentioned the Duo Spin’s ability to reduce side spin with the driver. The surprising thing I found was the added distance achieved. While the number is small, it is still an improvement nonetheless.
Finally, the price point of this ball is spectacular. It is indeed rare to find a ball that performs this well in so many areas at a price as appealing as this.
