In 2006, Richie Ramsay became the first Brit since 1911 to win the U.S. Amateur. Ramsay had a standout amateur record. He won the Scottish Amateur in 2004 and the Irish Amateur in 2005. The R&A rated Ramsay number one when they issued their first World Amateur Golf Ratings in 2007.
As an amateur, Ramsay played in, but failed to make the cut, in the 2007 Masters, U.S. Open and Open Championship. He turned professional after the Open Championship.
Ramsay played the Challenge Tour, Europe’s equivalent of the Web.com Tour, the last few months of 2007. He attempted to earn his tour card through the year-end qualifying school tournament, but came up short.
Ramsay played the Challenge Tour in 2008, winning twice and finishing inside the top ten on the money list. This performance earned him full European Tour playing privileges for 2009.
Ramsay played fairly consistently in 2009 and was able to retain his tour card for the 2010 season. Ramsay won his first European Tour event in late 2009 at the South African Open. He built on this momentum and recorded 6 top ten finishes during the 2011 season. This put him inside the top 30 on the European Order of Merit.
Ramsay won his second European Tour title at the 2012 Omega European Masters. In 2015, he added a third win, capturing the Trophee Hassan II in March.
Ramsay will now focus on qualifying for and improving his finishes in the Major championships. His best career finish in the Majors is a tie for 58th place at the 2013 Open Championship.
