Cabrera-Bello started playing golf when he was 6-years old. He was a standout amateur player. He won every age group at the Spanish National Championship between the ages of 7 and 18.
Cabrera-Bello placed 4th in the Open de Espana, a European Tour event, when he was a 17-year old amateur.
In 2005 at the age of 20, Cabrera-Bello turned professional. After narrowly failing to qualify for the European Tour, Cabrera-Bello began his career on the Challenge Tour – Europe’s equivalent to the Web.com Tour.
Carbrera-Bello found instant success on the Challenge Tour, winning an event and finishing 13th on the year-end money list. This performance earned him his European Tour card for the 2007 season.
Rafael found life on the big tour much more challenging. He failed to record a single top ten finish and also failed to retain his card at the season end qualifying school tournament. Back on the Challenge Tour, Cabrera-Bello bounced back on the Challenge Tour, winning his second title at the Credit Suisse Challenge. This helped fuel him to a 14th place finish on the money list, once again earning him his European Tour card.
Cabrera-Bello’s prospects improved dramatically during his second try on tour. He won his first European Tour title in spectacular fashion. He fired a third round 66 and a final round 60 to make up a 9-shot deficit at the Austrian Open. It was just the third time in the Tour’s long history that a player shot a 60 in the final round to win an event.
Cabrera-Bello’s richest purse as a professional came when he won the 2012 Dubai Desert Classic.
Cabrera-Bello’s top performance in a Major is a tie for 21st place at the 2013 Open Championship.
