The Alabama native was a successful amateur player and played college golf at Auburn University. He was a member of the United States team in both 2003 and 2005 at the Walker Cup. He was on the winning team in 2005 and also was part of the side that captured the Eisenhower Trophy in 2004. After graduating in 2005, Williams turned pro. For a few years, Williams plied his trade on the various mini Tours that are to be found across the United States. His first full season on the Nationwide Tour came in 2012 when he managed to finish the season 16th in the standings and earning his first ever PGA Tour card as a result. He won once at the Mexico Open Presented by Banamex and had a further three top 10s.
Williams played 22 events in his rookie season on the main Tour, making the cut on nine occasions. He didn’t have any top 25 finishes in his first season with his best result coming at the John Deere Classic where he came in a tie for 33rd. He ended his rookie season 196th on the money list and as a result he lost his card. Williams managed to regain a partial card after attending the Web.com Tour Finals event at the end of the year, where he finished 31st. He would fail to keep any PGA Tour status after his 2014 season. Williams played in 13 events and only made the cut five times. His best result was at the Puerto Rico Open where he ended the week in a tie for 43rd.
