If you struggle with your takeaway, try this great drill to help you improve and achieve the correct takeaway position.
Set up ready to hit your golf shot and place an alignment pole or club on the target line but to the right of the ball. Place another alignment pole or club on your toe line but again slightly to the right. Begin your takeaway by moving the club head along the target line pole.
As you do this you should notice that your hands move away from your body along the toe line pole. Keep your hands over the toe line pole and keep the club head over the target line pole. Once you have moved your hands to the right of your right thigh, now hinge your wrist upwards so that the club head moves directly up from the target line pole until it becomes in line with the toe line pole. At the end of the takeaway, your club is horizontally above and parallel with the toe line pole.
Keeping the club head to the left of the toe line pole as you look but keeping your hands over the toe line pole will ensure that you keep the club head outside the hands and will help you to achieve a much better and correct takeaway.
