Terms of developing a consistent set up to the golf ball one of the key elements we want to look for is standing the correct distance back away from the golf ball, but what you might find is that with each club you can't stand the same distance every time. Because different clubs will encourage you to be further and closer depending on the length of the shaft. So with the driver for example you can be standing further away from the ball with a pitching wedge you're going to be nearer to the ball. Now we can't always done exactly the same distance from the ball but what we do want to be is we want to be nice and consistent we also need to have an understanding that changing the distance between ourselves and the golf ball will have a big impact on how we actually swing the club. So for example I know encourages to practice this drill where you take your normal set up position for a seven iron you get yourself comfortable just there and you place a club on your toes.

Now stand two inches further back away from there and go ahead and hit some shots and it may be half a dozen shots from two inches further away and just see how that feels and see what effect that has on the golf ball when you're standing a little further away you should feel like you're stretching a little bit. Your swing might even feel a little bit flatter and a little bit more around the body then go the opposite way get to your club again and then move the club two inches forwards and then stand up to that. So now you'll feel really close you'll feel quite cramped you might feel like your swing has to be really really upright in that position again hit another half dozen shots and then try and work out which was the best section of shots was it your normal stance your further away stance you closer instance and you might feel already you can feel a beneficial position if you change your distance away from the ball is it better when you're near when you're steep. Is it better when you're further away and you are a little bit flatter it might feel different and the results might also look different then you could consider if you have found a difference from your normal position maybe standing further why. As has helped me going into that position more regularly is going to encourage you to make a better quality swing. So consider how close you're standing to the golf ball consider how you can change by standing further by standing closer and see if one of those checkpoints will help you improve your got.
